What are contact passwords? How do I use them?

In the system, you will specify a password when you create a contact object, and you will use the associated password to make a registrar-to-registrar transfer. Passwords are not required for any other operation.

This means that the registrant must provide his code to the new (gaining) registrar, who can then initiate a domain transfer request. It is a condition of use of the Afilias system that registrars provide a registrant with his or her contact code, when requested by the registrant.

This change will help pave the way for the implementation of EPP in our system. Registrars will receive EPP documentation regarding EPP auth_info codes.

What finance-related issues should registrars and registry operators be aware of?

Please see the Credit and Payment Policies document you have received from Afilias. When you fill out your financial forms, you will set new funding and balance notification thresholds.

When you reach your Low Balance Notification Threshold amount, Afilias will send an alert e-mail to your designated contact.

Registrars who are billed directly by AG Nic should contact AG Nic for details regarding .ag domains, and .ag domains only.

What time conventions are used?

In the Web administrative tool, dates are given in YYYY-MM-DD format.

Afilias uses the UTC time convention in its WHOIS and most other time-and-date displays. UTC stands for Coordinated Universal Time. UTC and GMT are essentially the same; they base time around the globe using Greenwich, England as the reference point. For UTC reference, please see the World Clock.

Registry Advantage system timestamps were based on U.S. Eastern time.

What are the valid characters and valid lengths for domain names?

Domains can contain the English-language letters A through Z, and the digits 0 through 9. You can also use hyphens, but hyphens cannot begin or end your domain name. Also, two hypens together is usually not permitted. Spaces and special characters (such as !, $, &, �, and so on) are never permitted. The minimum length varies by ccTLD (see their individual policies), and the maximum length is 63 characters (excluding extension, such as ".com.ag" or ".sc").

What are the status values an object can have?

Statuses are displayed in the domain record and the WHOIS. "Client"-related status are placed on domains or other objects by its owner (registrar), and can be removed by the registrar. "Server"-related statuses are usually placed on placed on domains or other objects by the system itself (so as to enforce a grace period, etc.).

• OK: This is the normal status of a domain.
• pendingTransfer: A transfer is in progress. Displayed during the transfer period.
• DeleteProhibited: The object cannot be deleted until the status is removed.
• Hold: The domain name can be updated, renewed, deleted, or transferred. The domain name shall not be included in the zone when in this status.
• RenewProhibited: Requests to renew the domain name will be rejected. The domain name can be transferred, deleted, or updated.
• TransferProhibited: The domain cannot be deleted until the status is removed.
• UpdateProhibited: The domain cannot be updated until the status is removed
• Inactive: The domain has less than 2 nameservers associated with it.

How often are zone files updated?

The ccTLD zone files are update at least every few minutes. Please note that ccTLD registries who manage their own nameservers may update their files more or less frequently.
